Under the name “A House”, South Korean architect Chang Kyu Lee designed a single-family residential house in the city of Yong-in. The challenge for the architect was to comply with local regulations, which prescribed a simple volume with a gable roof, and the client’s wish to create a close connection within the house’s three different stories to maintain the family members connected. The solution is a simple exterior form with an intricate interior, featuring an orchestration of open spaces, and several sources of natural light flooding the inside.

“A House” is based on a steel structure and has a zinc roof. As the architect wanted to achieve thin walls and a monolithic stucco finish, he chose AQUAPANEL® Cement Board Outdoor as the most suitable solution. In total, 471 m2 of cement boards were used for the project. The architect benefited from the superior performance of the highly weather-resistant boards and the enormous flexibility of the lightweight boards that allowed the design of the outstanding forms of “A House”. Construction started in October 2016 and was completed in February 2017 – only a short time after, the house already received its first price - the Silver Award at the prestigious A’ design awards in Milano.
