The ZIL metro station is located on the central Moscow Ring Road. This area, which is also part of the Moscow Central Railway (MCC), is one of the most ambitious projects within the development of new industrial zones. The station owes its name "ZIL" to a former car manufacturer, which was located on the site until 2012. Each MCC station was built in the same style of neofuturism. An individual colour scheme distinguishes the stations from each other. The accent colour blue was used for the ZIL station.

The platform is completed on both sides by the entrances to the arrow-shaped terminals leading to the lobbies. In these lobbies, there are ticket offices, a small police station and rooms used for technical equipment. The special feature of all the station buildings is the extensive glazing of the outer wall, which is framed both inside and outside by large metal panels. For the substructure, it was therefore very important to use a system that can take heavy loads. In addition, parts of the facade are curved, which places additional demands on the wall system.

The project planner chose the Knauf Exterior Wall with AQUAPANEL® Technology because of the various challenges of this project. The basis of that system is the AQUAPANEL® Cement Board Outdoor. With a bending radius of 3 m for the entire board, it allows architects to create a range of different shapes and designs, which also enabled the construction of the cur ved exterior wall of the metro station.

In addition, AQUAPANEL® Cement Board Outdoor is compatible with various finishing options, including paint, plaster, as well as adhered materials such as clinker or aluminium panels. Thus, the Knauf Exterior Wall was an ideal substrate for the metal panels finishing of this project. Since the structure is "drywall", the construction process of the Knauf Exterior Wall took only a short time and the metro station could be completed exactly on the scheduled commissioning date.

To guarantee perfect execution of the project, AQUAPANEL® technical specialists were on site during the planning and construction phases to suppor t the contractor in the optimal implementation of the project.
