In 2018 and after two years of construction, the Regional Museum of Aysén (Chile) was officially opened on 4 January. The Museum, which aims to gather, safeguard, promote and exhibit the natural and cultural heritage of the region, was declared a National Historic Monument.

In this way, the building was part of the programme "Puesta en Valor del Patrimonio", spaces that allowed the restoration and rehabilitation of old buildings of the Sociedad Industrial de Aysén. It is in this same place that the city of Coyhaique was founded in 1929. This restoration programme also included landscaping works, a modern building with an auditorium and a free exhibition floor. A total of 4,029 m2 were renovated.

AQUAPANEL® was essential in the development of parts of this project. The refurbishment and integration of new structures and spaces meant that cement boards were chosen for the development of certain areas.

For the exterior ceiling, AQUAPANEL® Cement Boards were applied, a product that is 100% water resistant and resistant to the extreme weather conditions that exist in this region. It does not mould, nor is it damaged by humidity or temperature changes. In addition, it allowed the development of a diagonal ceiling, which gives a distinctive seal to the building.

In addition to the participation of AQUAPANEL® Cement Boards, the systems' parent brand, Knauf, was also involved in the process.

In the interior of the museum, the ceilings were developed in an inclined zigzag pattern with varying heights. Knauf Cleaneo perforated acoustic panels were used, with random circular perforations, which give an interesting and playful look to the interior environment. In the auditorium, the same product was used in the ceiling and wall cladding.
