For a new transport hub in the Moscow district of Prokshino, the architects from the Mospromproect office relied on the remarkable qualities of Knauf Exterior Wall.

Prokshino station, which opened in 2019, carries 100,000 passengers per day to take the strain off the district’s traffic-packed roads. In addition, while the high ceilings and stained-glass windows of its platforms refer to classical railway stations of the 19th century such as London’s Waterloo and New York’s Pennsylvania Station, the exterior is futuristic and aerodynamic. However, when the project was at the planning stage, the architects and contractors faced the challenge of finding materials that could bring the concept to life.

Knauf Exterior Wall was the ideal choice for construction of the station’s technical premises. Its high degree of fire resistance met all the requirements for a metro station, and its ability to handle any type of cladding offered great flexibility. The system allowed the project to be cost-effective, while ensuring a high-quality building that would stand the test of time.

For this project, the Knauf Exterior Wall included an outer lining of AQUAPANEL® Cement Board Outdoor, an inner lining of Knauf gypsum boards, and a filling of thermal insulation between the studs of the frame. This innovative method – which meant there was no need for either “wet” installation processes or additional reinforcements – ensured the fastest possible construction time, and helped the contractor to complete the project on schedule.

From public transport to private residences, Knauf Aquapanel brings exceptional concepts to life. Get in touch to see what we can do for you.
