SLEEP WELL BELOW PERFECT KITCHENS

The WestIn Leipzig, Germany

Sleep well below perfect kitchens

One of the most important aspects was sound insulation since the hotel guests in the rooms under the restaurant should not be disturbed in any way. So, a system comprising dry screed, sound insulation boards, and AQUAPANEL® Cement Board Floor was installed.

  • Architect: Bost Interieur Design GmbH, Germany
  • Project time frame: 2005
  • Type of building: Hotel
  • System: AQUAPANEL® Cement Board Floor
  • Application area: 600 m2

The 4-star Westin Hotel in the centre of Leipzig was built as a high-rise building dating back to the German Democratic Republic. It features 447 state-of-the-art furnished suites, single and double rooms, 29 conference rooms, and five restaurants and lounges, spread over 27 floors. To add to the attractiveness of the hotel, a first-class gourmet restaurant was planned on the 27th floor. At the top of the building, guests not only enjoy first-class cuisine but also have a fascinating panorama over the Saxon metropolis.

All the floor covers in the 600 m2 former storage area had to be removed to refurbish the floors. A completely new floor was built on the substrate of the bare reinforced concrete. One of the most important aspects was sound insulation since the hotel guests in the rooms under the restaurant should not be disturbed in any way. So, a system comprising dry screed, sound insulation boards, and AQUAPANEL® Cement Board Floor was installed. After several tests, the results were remarkable. The cement board system reduced footfall sound on the solid floor covers by up to 29 dB. Today the “Falco” restaurant is one of the best in town and is always fully booked – without disturbing the guests in the rooms below.
